Gakudo-kai is a study group held roughly ten times a year to encourage thought and discussion on some of the most pressing issues facing our nation and our planet.

The group is devoted to peace, the exchange of ideas, the building of a brighter future, and the belief that everyone has a part to play.

Gakudo-kai is named after Gakudo–Yukio Ozaki’s nom de plume, which represented his desire to continue learning throughout his life. Ozaki lived from 1858 to 1954 and served in the Japanese Diet for 63 of those years. He was a strong advocate for peace, even during wartime.

The group invites noted authorities from relevant disciplines to speak and exchange alternative views. It is chaired by Ozaki’s granddaughter (and the translator of his autobiography) Fujiko Hara.

The hope is that, through thinking and talking about our shared challenges and strategies for overcoming them, we can contribute to the building of a better Japan and a better world.

Sessions take place generally on weekdays and in the early evenings. Information on speakers, times, and locations are posted on this website and sent out via e-mail. A contribution of ¥2000 is requested from mature participants to offset expenses. Students are welcome to participate for free in order to encourage forward thinking among the younger generation.

Benefactors wishing to further support Gakudo-kai’s efforts are welcome to make donations of any size through this website. We greatly appreciate all advocacy and assistance that helps spur our nation and our world toward a better tomorrow.
